Today we visit the French Catacombs known as the empire of the dead. This place is creepy! People have been buried here, deep under Paris, for over 500 years. In the 19th century Paris was over crowded with dead and the water supply was poorly affected, so millions of bodies were moved underground to the Catacombs. The bones were moved in the middle of the night by priests, and sections were built and filled by date with markings showing who was responsible for building/filling an area and when. There are many miles of catacombs, so one must take care not to get lost.
